AIEN (formerly AIPN) offers three types of memberships: Active, Government/National Company and Student.
Do you think you were previously a member? Contact AIEN at membership@aien.org to verify before completing a new application. Click here for more information about reinstating.
Active Membership
Active Membership in the AIEN is open to individuals who are engaged in, actively seeking participation in, or those supervising individuals engaged in:
(i) negotiations work in the global energy sector, which includes the acquisition, exploration, development, production, processing, transportation, storage and other commercialization of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon sources of energy; and
(ii) providing professional services in direct support of the negotiations work described in subsection (i) including dispute resolution. By way of illustration, but not in limitation, the persons providing such supporting professional services include engineers, lawyers, geologists, geophysicists, chemists, physicists, accountants, educators, investment bankers, and government officials.
Each Active Member applicant must list one (1) Active or Government/National Company Member in good standing (current on dues), who must be willing to act as a reference on the applicant’s behalf. The reference email address must match our records. Need help finding a reference? We're here to help. Please email membership@aien.org for assistance with finding references.
The annual fee for Active Membership is $195.
Government/ National Company Membership
Government/National Company membership is available to those who meet the criteria for Active Membership (detailed above), and who are employed by a National Company that has a minimum of 51% government ownership. AIEN defines an NOC as:
a) a company primarily engaged in the energy sector in which a government owns, directly or indirectly, a controlling participation; or
b) a governmental authority/ministry whose primary function is to draft and/or administer state policy for the development of energy from sovereign resources or contained within sovereign boundaries.
Each Government/National Company Member applicant must list one (1) Active or NOC Member in good standing (current on dues), who must be willing to act as a reference on the applicant’s behalf. The reference email address must match our records. Need help finding a reference? We're here to help. Please email membership@aien.org for assistance with finding references.
The annual fee for NOC Membership is $195. AIEN offers the option of a fee-waived membership to those qualifying Government/National Company applicants who are experiencing administrative or economic obstacles that would otherwise prevent him or her from becoming an AIEN member. These applicants can request this during the application process.
Student Membership
Student Membership is available to individuals currently enrolled in a college or university of higher learning.
Each Student Member applicant must list one (1) Active or Government/National Company Member in good standing (current on dues) who is willing to act as a reference on the applicant’s behalf. The reference email address must match our system. Need help finding a reference? We're here to help. Please email membership@aien.org for assistance with finding references.
Also, Student Member applicants must submit proof of student status and expected graduation date at time of application.
The annual fee for Student Membership is $40.
Upon graduation, Student Members will automatically become Active Members of the association.
Application Process
Once your application is received, along with payment (if applicable), required documentation (Student applicants must submit proof of enrollment and expected graduation date), and your reference has positively responded, your application will be submitted to the AIEN Board of Directors at its next Board meeting for review. You will be notified thereafter regarding your admission via email.
AIEN membership is based on a calendar year from January 1 to December 31. Applicants admitted on or after September 1 will have their dues payment applied to the remainder of the year, as well as the following calendar year.
Retired Members: Membership dues for retired Active Members are reduced by fifty percent (50%) for so long as the Active Member remains retired. If you are newly retired, please email membership@aien.org to let us know!
Please note: Membership shall not be open to persons seeking membership exclusively for commercial purposes or to capitalize on the AIEN name in furtherance of their current business, industry or trade unrelated to (i)-(ii) above.
All information requested in the membership application forms, payment of the annual dues for membership and the required number of references must be provided within 120 days after the date on which the membership application form was provided to AIEN or the application shall be automatically returned. If payment of the annual dues was made by wire transfer and the membership application has been returned, refund of the annual dues payment shall be made less any administrative costs incurred by the AIEN relating to the wire transfer. Re-application for AIEN membership may be made by the applicant.
