Elaina Smouha
Elaina is a Lead Counsel and Deputy Company Secretary of Arrow Energy (Arrow), an incorporated joint venture between Shell and PetroChina which develops, produces, and sells coal seam gas in Queensland and generates electricity.
The bulk of her 20-year career has been in the coal seam gas industry having spent the last 11 years with Arrow providing legal support for Arrow’s Surat Gas Project, its previously owned Moranbah Gas Project and its electricity generation business. Elaina has a real depth of knowledge having had the privilege to advise on a vast range of areas including complex regulatory issues, environmental approvals, Arrow’s participation in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s East Coast Gas Inquiry, joint venture arrangements, contract negotiations and disputes, competition law, land access arrangements, and corporate governance.
Before joining Arrow Energy, Elaina was the Director of Governance and Regulatory Compliance for the South East Queensland Water Grid Manager, a Queensland government body facilitating water services to South East Queensland. Prior to that Elaina worked in private practice in Queensland and London in the areas of litigation and resources law.
Elaina became a member of AIEN in 2022 and is a member of AIEN’s Australia Pacific Regional Committee.
Outside of work, Elaina loves spending time with her family and travelling.
