Australia-Pacific Chapter, SPE & ERL Event "Changes to Offshore Petroleum Decommissioning Regulation"Thursday, May 26, 2022 (4:45pm - 7:30pm Asia/Brunei) Parmelia Hilton 14 Mill St Perth, WA 6000 Australia |
Jane Ballard, Senior Associate, Herbert Smith Freehills
Join the Australia-Pacific Chapter, Society of Petroleum Engineers Western Australia and Energy Resource Law for an informative and engaging talk on Australia’s decommissioning sector.
Australia’s offshore petroleum decommissioning regulatory regime has recently seen significant changes with new, far-reaching changes to legislation affecting decommissioning recently passed, including the introduction of trailing liability. More change is anticipated, with a shake up of decommissioning reporting requirements and financial assurance obligations.
The session will provide a brief overview of the changes that have been announced to date and a snapshot of those areas where further changes are expected. Jane will also provide a summary of the session at the APPEA conference that Herbert Smith Freehills is participating in – where these key issues affecting petroleum decommissioning in Australia and what it means for the industry in the future will be discussed by leading representatives from industry, legal, government and regulators.
Jane Ballard is a senior associate in the Corporate Energy and Resources Team at Herbert Smith Freehills in Perth. Her practice involves advising on domestic and international projects in the oil and gas, natural resources and renewables sectors including advising on acquisitions and divestments, joint ventures, regulatory matters and project development.
In recent years, Jane has developed a strong interest in the offshore petroleum decommissioning space, having spent 3 years working in HSF’s London energy team, where she advised on the UK’s offshore decommissioning regime and decommissioning security agreements.
