US Chapter Luncheon "Greenwashing Litigation: 2025 Trends"

David Baay is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Litigation and Government Enforcement practice group and resides in the Firm's Houston office. David has over 23 years of trial and arbitration experience representing clients in high-stakes commercial disputes. David specializes in partnership disputes involving closely-held corporations and limited liability companies. David is also a known authority on greenwashing litigation and PFAS litigation and has spoken extensively on the topic of litigation exposure arising from greenwashing claims. David holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and received his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
 

Kelsey Machado is a partner in Baker McKenzie's Houston office and is a member of the Firm's Litigation and Government Enforcement practice group. Kelsey represents clients on a wide range of commercial matters and has built a reputation as a proficient litigator capable of managing energy and business disputes in various jurisdictions across the US. She also has extensive experience defending class action lawsuits. Kelsey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Wake Forest University and received her Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Kelsey is on the board of trustees for the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation, the charitable arm to the Houston Association of Women Attorneys.
 

Emily Shields currently serves as our Senior Vice President – Sustainability and Assistant General Counsel.  Emily served previously as the company’s Assistant General Counsel and Compliance Officer leading corporate matters across areas of governance, business disputes and litigation, ethics and regulatory compliance, labor and employment, health, safety and environment, and our international legal group. Prior to joining MRC Global in 2013, Emily practiced litigation at the law firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius L.L.P. in Houston, Texas.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Texas A&M University and received her Juris doctorate from South Texas College of Law.  Emily is on the board of the Association of Corporate Counsel - Houston Chapter. 
 

Julie Solmer Stine is LYB’s Associate General Counsel for Sustainability & Corporate Affairs.  In this role, she is responsible for delivering legal support to the Company’s sustainability strategy, corporate communications and government relations functions.  Prior to that, she served as Associate General Counsel – Operations and Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), where she was responsible for supporting HSE matters globally, and Operations matters including procurement, supply chain, utilities, pipeline and real estate in North America.  Ms. Solmer Stine joined LyondellBasell in 2018 as Lead Counsel – Global HSE, where she led the Company’s HSE legal team. 

Prior to joining LyondellBasell, Ms. Solmer Stine practiced environmental law for more than 13 years, first at a large law firm, and then in in-house roles at Caterpillar and General Electric Company.  Ms. Solmer Stine worked for four years as an HSE professional in the automotive industry before practicing law.  Ms. Solmer Stine’s interest in sustainability strategy and policy goes all the way back to her time as an undergraduate in Washington, DC, where she worked as an intern in the legislative and executive branches of government on sustainability issues.

Ms. Solmer Stine holds a juris doctor from Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from George Washington University.
