China has emerged from 2020 with its growth intact, being the only major world economy to gain ground at all last year. Japan’s Economy Minister projects that Japan’s economy will grow 4% in 2021, and South Korea’s economy is expected to grow over 3% in 2021. Taiwan’s central bank recently raised its full year growth projection to 2.5%. And to start off the new year, Asian spot LNG prices hit record highs due to transportation bottlenecks, supply outages and record winter temperatures boosting demand.
Against this potential for East Asia to drive US LNG demand yet again are East Asia’s carbon policies and their potential impact on the region’s demand for oil and gas. Organized by the US Chapter, this webinar will discuss:
- The status of East Asia’s carbon commitments, including China’s 2060 Carbon Neutral Pledge, Japan’s National Climate Plan, South Korea’s Green New - Deal, and Taiwan’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act;
- The status of carbon trading and its relevance to US LNG; and
- The role of carbon neutral or carbon transparent LNG in US LNG exports to East Asia.
