Dual-Track Workshops

Prior to the IES Welcome Reception and kick-off of the conference, AIEN will host four workshops on Tuesday, June 10. There will be two morning workshops and two afternoon workshops, allowing attendees to register for more than one workshop and double their learning! All workshops are $350 each and can be added on to your conference registration. Registration will include a coffee break and workshop materials.

The number of participants in each workshop is limited in order to facilitate the highest level of interaction.

Evolution of Model Contracts for New Energies

This workshop will introduce and discuss the essential factors that lenders consider and analyze to ensure that a project has a "bankable" structure, and the various project pitfalls to be aware of that can hold back or delay the financing of energy projects. Power Markets and the PPA

This workshop provides an overview of key structures in global electricity markets, focusing on how power grids operate and how supply and demand are managed. It will explore the role of grid operators in maintaining system reliability, particularly during peak demand. The session will also cover the role PPAs play in electricity markets,  important terms and clauses commonly found in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), provisions included to accommodate particular technologies and risk allocation techniques to ensure a PPA is attractive from both a debt and equity perspective. By the end, participants will better understand the complexities of electricity markets and how contracts and grid operations work together and the key role PPAs play.

The first segment of this workshop, conducted by the Co-chairs of the recently formed Model Host Government Agreement Drafting Committee, will (i) describe the primary types of HGAs, (ii) report on the committee’s progress, and (iii) solicit the audience’s viewpoints on key HGA clauses such as guarantees, relinquishments, stability, decommissioning, and dispute resolution. The second segment will consist of a hands-on mock negotiation among the attendees of a host government agreement in the fictitious country of Hostgovnia.
